Life and Death Education via Picture book

The topics of life and death are never easy yet essential to discuss with children.

Welcome to join the tea gathering on 30 May 2015 afternoon with Ms. So Mei Chi. She will share with us on these topics through related picture books. This talk will be conducted in Cantonese. For enquiries, please call 23388347.

New booklet "New Experience on Storytelling” for free

Since 2008, HAC has been working closely with primary schools via storytelling training workshops. Trained parents of the workshops were encouraged to become volunteers and to help design related story programmes for these schools. At the same time, we also launched pair-reading programmes for children aged 3 to 6 in Storyland with the help of adult volunteers. Together with Hong Kong Baptist University, we conducted a research for the above mentioned programmes and published the booklet "New Experience on Storytelling”.

Microsoft elderly visit on Lamma Island

On 26 March 2015, 22 volunteers from Microsoft visited a dozen elderly households living in the villages of Sok Kwu Wan and Pak Kok Tsuen on Lamma Island. Volunteers got the chance to communicate with the elderly people and found that some of them had poor eyesight. Therefore, they helped to read out documents such as the electricity bills for the elderly. The volunteers were impressed that some elderly grew herbs in their gardens and sold herbal tea for a living.

Book Carousel Project 2015

Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club sponsored the Book Carousel Project in 2014 and received very good feedback from the children members. This year, the Club continues to sponsor this project. In March, 100 children from Tai O and Wong Tai Sin districts went to large scale book stores to choose two picture books each. They shared and exchange their books on 10 April in the Club. This year, HAC will launch the "book floating corner” in centres to facilitate children to exchange books they have read, encouraging them to share and to extend their interest on reading.
