ˇ§I know how to use PC now!ˇ¨
Mrs. Poon has lived in Tai O for 10 years with her family. She usually works as a cleaner for others and takes care of her own family.
Mrs. Poon bought a PC for her children who are secondary students. Although she didnˇ¦t know how to use the computer, her children were very knowledgeable, and comfortably used the computer for doing homework. At the beginning, Mrs. Poon had no motivation to learn PC skills because she is busy and doesnˇ¦t know English well. One day, she asked her son about what he was doing with the PC, and her son replied, ˇ§You donˇ¦t know it!ˇ¨ Mrs. Poon certainly was annoyed by this answer, but it stimulated her to learn PC skills!
After that incident, Mrs. Poon decided to join the PC courses at the Tai O Cyber Learning Centre, and now she knows how to search info, check email and type Chinese words. She enjoys studying very much and meets new friends there. She thinks it is convenient to take the courses in Tai O as housewives can conveniently make use of the time after dinner. She adds, ˇ§I would like to thank HAC for setting up the Cyber Learning Centre. I can proudly say to my children now, ˇ§I know how to use a PC!ˇ¨
Computer literate, Mrs. Poon has decided to study continuously at the Centre and wants to learn English, which will enable her to learn PC skills more easily. She believes PC skills can enrich her life and improve the communication between herself and her children.
ˇ§Tai O Cyber Learning Centreˇ¨ and ˇ§The New Generation of Cyber in Tai O Programmeˇ¨
The IT facilities in Tai O are inadequate to meet the requirements of residents whose IT skills are generally insufficient. Last year, to address community need, HAC, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Computer Society, set up the Tai O Cyber Learning Centre, with sponsorships from PCCW and Microsoft (HK) Limited. Tai O residents are welcomed to use the IT facilities inside the Centre and volunteer tutors are recruited to teach the IT classes.
