A warm welcome and thank you for browsing our Webpage.

The Storyland at the Chuk Yuen Estate Community Centre has already opened! Surely you would like to know more about our facilities and services.

No matter how old you are, "stories" and "storytelling" must be familiar to you. Hans Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling", "The little Match Seller" must be one of your favorite bedside stories! And we hope to achieve the mission and vision of the Hans Andersen Club, by creating the 'happiest childhood' at Storyland for children in the community.

Today, our dreams have come true!

Introduction

Storyland was established in 2006. We aim at providing creative and professional activities related to storytelling. These include, paired-reading, training of volunteers and community service. We believe that reading can help to widen the horizon of children and their self esteem. It is also a good means for the enhancement of parent-children relationship.

Our Serices

  1. Volunteers and Community Service
    - link up cooperate volunteers to share the joy of reading with different people
    - supporting families and children according to their need



  2. Paired-reading
    - inspire children's interest in reading through creative workshop or games
    - provide high quality books for the development of children at different age
    - encourage children to explore the world around them and develop virtue in their characters



  3. Reading Sowers in Community
    With the support of The Hongkong Bank Foundation through a donation to The Community Chest, we will provide a holistic service to selected schools in Hong Kong. These services include:

    (1) Workshop for parents
    Theories, techniques and tools for storytelling will be shared with parents
    - Conflict between parents and children can be solved through the use of story
    - Creativity and interaction are encourage



  4. (2) Storytelling resources
    - Various high quality books are available for borrowing in Storyland
    - Protocols for parents are provided for different stories
    - Protocols for schools in designing story related activities

Our Strategic Objectives

  • To create a fairytale and open atmosphere for needy children
  • To strengthen children's imagination and creativity
  • To induce positive messages to children by stories
  • To reinforces children's linguistic abilities and self-confidence by story role-playing.

Why? Because we believe that "Story is the power, which enhances people, from diverse backgrounds, to reach the knowledge treasury from reading."
