Member/ Volunteer Sharing
In the heart of Wang Tau Hom Estate,
the Diana Boyd Wilson Centre is conveniently located on the
ground floor of Wang Fai House. The centre provides a diverse
range of activities for youth, including our After School
Care Programme, tutoring, Boy Scout activities and special
interest groups. We are equipped with numerous computer stations
in the centre, a dining area and quiet area for studying.
Our dedicated staff are professionally trained and are either
diploma or degree holders in social work. Since the opening
of the Diana Boyd Wilson Centre in the 1990's, some staff
have been serving for over ten years. Similarly, this is also
the case with some of our long-term club members who are now
some of our most dedicated volunteers. This bonding promotes
a great sense of belonging to our local community within the
Wong Tai Sin district, perhaps our greatest strength of all.
Service Story - Diana Boyd Wilson
"I
want to have lunch here!" demanded a 2-year-old boy who
refused to take his mothers outstretched hand and left
the kitchen where a group of 10 children were having their
lunch, much to the embarrassment of the mother. The boys
elder brother was enjoying lunch, playfully scooping a spoon
of food and held it out to the boy, enticing him to have a
taste. The mother began complaining to the worker on duty,
My boy says that my cooking is not as good as Aunties
at the Centre, and Auntie allows him to name the dishes he
likes . . . .
The After School Care Programme at
the Diana Boyd Wilson Centre is very popular with the local
families. The local primary schools, the Social Welfare Department
and those families who have joined our service recommend the
others to join our programme, and usually there is a waiting
list. Conscientious and caring, the Centre staff strives to
meet the demands of every child. Improvements for these primary
school students are obvious: their schoolwork has improved,
the problem of not handing in their homework is minimal, they
have learnt to accept other children and, most importantly,
they have learnt to be independent.
For every child entering our Centre,
we aim at giving them practical support. Our staff members
have the welfare of the children at heart and are quick to
respond to the childrens needs. We also take our work
for parents as one of our major tasks. We conduct regular
meetings with the aim of enhancing fathers and mothers
parenting skills.
