GET READY . . .
1. What story will you tell?
For new storytellers, think of a
favourite or important experience or memory. Why was this
experience or memory important? What significance did it
have to you, then and now? If you tell a story that is meaningful
to you, your listeners will likely find it valuable as well.
Because stories enable us to share common human experience,
it is important that you consider your listeners or audience
will be (i.e., their ages, gender, educational background,
ethnicities, language preferences, etc.). Try to pick a
story that you and your listeners will have common knowledge
about. After all, ordinary life experiences are like master
teachers: they offer great lessons and understanding about
ourselves, others and the world in which we live.
