Be a story-teller

Lesson 1 | Lesson 2 |Lesson 3 | Lesson 4 |

Within each of us, there is a storyteller. Whether the stories we choose to tell reflect our personal experiences or recall those of others is not so important. What is important is that we engage ourselves and our children in storytelling.

When you and your children become storytellers, you have many possible benefits. In addition to its entertainment value, storytelling:

  • Enables you to recall, examine, question, and try to understand past experiences.
  • Provides opportunities to use language (Mother tongue, EFL/ESL) to express and communicate with others.
  • Promotes cognitive activity, such as on memory and logic, in telling and processing stories.
  • Serves as a creative vehicle to focus on self, to valorise self and to develop self-confidence.
  • Assists in the discovery of rich and complex insights about your life and relationships with family and friends.

With a bit of practice, you can develop your ability and confidence as a storyteller. And, in doing so, you can have lots of fun as well!
