Revamp
With the generous support from Social Welfare Development
Fund granted by the government, HAC launched the monthly e
newsletter since February 2011. The new website will also
be revamped between mid to end of July 2011. To enhance the
interactive communications between our staff and members,
"Fairy Blog" will be activated in August. If you have any
opinions on our new website, you are welcome to send us email
at info@hac.org.hk. We shall continue to provide you with
updated news of HAC.

Inclusion
Sand Sculpturing Competition & Social Capital Carnival
With the support from The Community Investment and Inclusion
Fund, Lamma Island centre of HAC is able to promote the idea
of racial integration and a sustainable Lamma.

Sharing
in Tai-O
On 11 June 2011, some twenty corporate volunteers from Kerry
Holdings Limited gathered at Tai O to prepare 500 pieces of
presents for the needy elderly people. Vermicelli, oil and
fruits were included in the "love packages". The inhabitants
appreciated the kind heart from these volunteers, and their
care for the people living in a remote area. Volunteers shared
that they seldom got chance to visit Tai O, it was a good
time for them to talk to the friendly elderly.

NWS
Hong Kong Geo Wonders Hike
NWS Holdings Limited invited the "Smart Mentors and Mentees"
to participate in "NWS Hong Kong Geo Wonders Hike" on 14 May
2011, learning the geographical and environmental protection
knowledge in Hong Kong. Siu Kwan Ho, a participant, and his
younger brother shared that the guide was very informative.
They also found the pattern on rocks very interesting under
a magnifying glass.

The
Causeway Bay Rugby Football Club raised fund for the holistic
development of children
Early this year, the Causeway Bay Rugby Football Club helped
HAC raised HK$65,000 in a charity dinner. Mr. Mark Loynd,
committee member of the Causeway Bay Rugby Football Club presented
the cheque to our Executive Director and children members.
HAC will make good use of the donation for its future operations
and plans, including but not limited to sports trainings,
and the storytelling services through which parents are trained
to deliver stories in diversified ways, to enhance the parent-child
interaction and communication, helping them grow up happily,
healthily and to their fullest potential.

Looking
for Community and Arts Seminar
Ms. May Wong joined the "Looking for Community and Arts Seminar"
on 28 May 2011 at Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre. Being
one of the speakers, Ms. May Wong shared the experience on
organising a large scale story carnival and using puppets
and dramas as means for storytelling among teenagers. There
were fruitful discussions in the forum and enhanced the experience
sharing among different culture parties.

The
Reading Sowers in Community Project (Phase 2)
The Reading Sowers in Community Project (Phase 2) aims at
promoting reading to parents and children in kindergartens
and primary schools. Training workshops, distinguished by
their fun and interactivity, will be provided to equip parents
to be Storytelling Mums and Dads in schools. We will also
offer in-depth training to selected schools in Kwai Chung,
Wong Tai Sin and Kwun Tong, encouraging parents to use storytelling
as a means of communication with children. Apart from school-based
programmes, the Storyland will also hold regular paired reading
sessions for children at our centre, hoping to cultivate their
interest in reading and to care for their developmental needs.

Little
Links, Unlimited Dreams" Project (Phrase 2)
HAC was glad to receive the match donation grantedby The
Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged to launch Phrase 2
of the "Little Links, Unlimited Dreams" Project. Three secondary
schools and three schools with special needs students will
be matched up as reading buddies. Workshops like story writing,
communications skill will be provided. It is hoped that through
this connection, social inclusion and networking can be achieved.
Phrase 2 is launched by mid 2011. HAC will partner with schools
like SAHK Jockey Club Elaine Field School to spread the reading
culture among the community.

Getting
to Know Hong Kong
On 7 May 2011, some 30 volunteers from Hip Hing Constuction
Co Ltd and VIBRO (H.K.) Limited sponsored 60 children members
from Chuk Yuen Centre going to the Peak of Hong Kong. Children
and volunteers worked together to create their own Hong Kong
stories.

SG Dragon Boat Cheering Team
Couple dozen of staff from Societe Generale joined Stanley
International Dragon Boat Championships on 10 May 2011. Children
members from Chuk Yuen Centre went to cheer up our supportive
volunteers on the date. The volunteers and children enjoyed
lunch together and play games on the beach, sharing a sunny
and happy holiday.

of Parents Agree Reading Activities Help Children Concentrate
In the latest research initiated by HAC, over 70% of parents
agree that reading activities help their children to concentrate
better. And 60% agree that it helps their children to gain
general knowledge and to develop their language skills.

Causeway
Bay Rugby Football Club Raises Funds for Storytelling Promotion
On 23rd March 2011, the Irish Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong
held a sports personality dinner in Causeway Bay. Approximately
250 guests were in attendance and the two special guests were
Mr. Lawrence Dallaglio and Mr. Keith Wood, both world-famous
rugby players.

Safe
Internet for Children Workshops
As the partner of Microsoft Unlimited Potential project,
HAC held three workshops on "Safe Internet for Children" for
parents in Wong Tai Sin districts in March and April 2011.
It was aimed to provide a basic knowledge of using computer
and issues related to Internet safety, thus enabling parents
to navigate Internet with their children in a safe and secured
manner. There were 60 attendances in total for the workshops.

CSR Big Day
Societe Generale held her CSR BIG DAY on 3rd April 2011 at
the Peak, 26 children members from HAC joined the meaningful
charity walk with the corporate volunteers. They had lunch
and play games after the walk, enjoyed a wonderful Sunday
together.

Balloon Private Party
On 22 March 2011, 50 children from Chuk Yuen Centre were
happily invited by DHL to join the Balloon Private Party near
Jordon. For many of them, it was the first time to fly in
a hot air balloon. They were so excited! It was a special
and memorable moment for the primary school children.

bought quality electronic books to enhance storytelling resource
for parents. Clown presentation skills were also given to
teenagers to encourage them to explore new methods in communicating

Reading
Harvest: Sharing Forum on Promoting Reading in Primary Schools
With the generous supported by The Hongkong Bank Foundation
through a donation to The Community Chest, HAC lunched the
reading sowers in community project from 2008-2011. Trained
staff entered primary schools and helped to train parents
on storytelling techniques and teamed them up as volunteer
groups. In the past three years, over 1,200 parent attendances
and 2,500 student attendances were recorded. 600 sessions
of workshop were also provided.

Taiwan
Study Trip on Storytelling and Teenagers Services
In early Jan 2011, 14 staff of HAC went to Taiwan and visited
children book publishers, children theater, puppet museum
and teenagers services group. Staff will apply what they learnt
in the trip for reading promotions and children services in
the coming year.

Green Home
A group of primary school students went to Tai O by end of
Jan 2011. They loved the quiet environment and the friendly
inhabitants. In the project, they learnt more on recycling,
and committed to use less plastic bags and think twice before
throwing out garbage.

Ferry Pier Transformed Into a Fairy Tale World
2000 People Enjoyed in Story Carnival
Reading can be fun! Staff and volunteers from HAC, Societe
Generle (SG) and 80 students from primary and secondary schools
collaborated to build a kingdom of fairy tale. The staunch
tin solider, a famous story of Christian Hans Andersen, was
selected as the theme of the carnival. 2000 children and their
families enjoyed a Sunday afternoon on 21 Nov 2010 at Central
Star Ferry Pier.

On 4 Dec 2010, HAC collaborated with Bayard Presse Asia to
held "Sharing Family" program. In the program, we shared with
the children a book named, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt", together
with some thematic games, children learnt the joy of sharing

and Puppet Show cum a hundred children making puppets
With the generous sponsored from Societe Generale, the captioned
event was launched on 10 July 2010 in Plaza Hollywood, Diamond
Hill. 24 students were selected and awarded out of over 200
pieces of artworks. These artworks were displayed in Plaza
Hollywood on 11 and 12 July 2010. Special thanks to Plaza
Hollywood, QQ Club and Artz Mania for their kind assistance.
Brother Harry also performed a magic puppet show in the ceremony
and hundreds of audiences were attracted in the plaza.

Storytelling
enhances parent-child relationship
Early this year, HAC conducted a survey on 'the impact of
storytelling activities in building parent-child relationship
in Hong Kong'. The survey found that parents who joined storytelling
workshops enjoyed better parent-child relationships and intimacy
with their children, in compared with those parents without
similar training. The result was released in '2010 Joint World
Conference on Social Work and Social Development' in June.
This represented the recognition from the international social
welfare sector toward the works of HAC.

The "SG Collage and Puppet Show & Competitions" was sponsored
