In 1963, a group of expatriates began serving the underprivileged children and new migrant families in the Diamond Hill area of Kowloon; to further their work, they established the Club in the same year, using the name of the renowned Danish storywriter Hans Christian Andersen to indicate the Club's concern and focus on children and youths.

In fulfilling its mission to provide practical help and support to underprivileged children, the Hans Andersen Club has the following specific goals:

  • To help children attain well-balanced moral, academic, physical, social and aesthetic development;
  • To provide resources that enable children to actualize their personal potential;
  • To offer mothers and fathers support and information that will enable them to fulfil their parenting roles;
  • To encourage children, youths and their families to care for the community and participate in community activities.
